Reflections on Vedanta
Henriette Muys
The knowledge that “I am the Self” is brought home very clearly by regularly and continuously studying Vedanta under the guidance of a Vedanta teacher who has realized the Self. The Vedanta teacher can skilfully explain the true meaning of the teachings of the scriptures of Vedanta. This is my experience.
About 50 years ago at the High School in Amstelveen I read the following words from a Dutch poet, whose name I don’t remember. The significance of the lines is this: The essence of Being is the essence of the Reality. In and through this Reality I see, without confusion or fear the world of appearance, of me and mine, and the Truth which is me.
These words made a big impression on me and, although I immediately emigrated to Australia and English became my language of use and thinking, I never forgot these words. The journey to the truth, as to who am I really, where do I come from and where am I going, has been a long journey for me with the final goal as well as the beginning of the study of Vedanta / Advaita Vedanta. Vedanta has brought the poem to clarity and reality. Vedanta instantly tells you who you are and then gives you the methods to bring out what is hidden within yourself. Step by step the teachings are unveiling and weaking the powers of ignorance and thus, the truth comes to Light. The Truth that you find is you yourself. There is only one: the Self. There is no other. And this simplicity is the truth and the love that we are.
Recently on my way to Germany for a study in the Narada Bhakti Sutras, I met Swami Sunirmalananda in Amstelveen. A true gift for me to which I look back with much gratitude.
I recommend to all who seek the truth to include the Vedanta in their study. As soon as a person recognizes himself and knows who he is …. the person has nothing to fear.
Mevrouw Henriette Muys is een student van Vedanta sinds een lange tijd. Ze heeft verschillende geschriften bestudeerd onder leiding van leraren. Dit, afgezien van persoonlijke studies en meditatie.
