Magnetism in Ancient India
Long before the dawn of civilizations, India had perfected the science of magnetism. Magnets were used for numerous functions. Magnets were used to melt metals, which is now called electromagnetic induction.
Vâgbhata, in his monumental work, Rasa-ratna samucchaya speaks of five forms of magnetism, of which melting metals using magnets is one. This is practiced now to perfection.
